Android TV Digital Signage: Any TV, No Special Hardware
Android TV devices are cheap, everywhere, and plenty powerful for signage. Instead of buying proprietary players, you can turn an Android TV stick or box into a managed signage screen in minutes.
Why Android TV for signage
Low cost, wide availability, and a real app platform. Pair one with My Smart Signage and you get a centrally managed screen without a dedicated media player.
Step by step
Install and pair
Open the player on the Android TV device, read off the six-digit code, and enter it in your dashboard. Paired.
Design and publish
Build a layout in the browser editor, or start from a template, then publish. The screen updates in about a second.
Rely on offline-first
The player caches content locally, so a Wi-Fi hiccup does not blank the screen. Playback simply continues.
What to buy
Any reputable Android TV stick or box works. Favour something with a bit more RAM for smooth playback; avoid the very weakest 1GB devices.
Questions
Does it also run on Windows?
Yes. My Smart Signage runs on Android TV and Windows, so you can mix devices across locations.
Do I need a Raspberry Pi?
No. Unlike some platforms, there is no Pi to flash or manage. Use an Android TV device or a Windows mini-PC you already own.
